Sustainability at the BLUME.

Our historic hotel moves responsibly into the future

For centuries, the BLUME. has been a place of relaxation and encounter. To keep it that way, we think and act with foresight: we are mindful of resources, care for our historic building with dedication and rely on local partnerships. For us, sustainability means that what we do will endure for centuries to come.

Environment and materials

Durability instead of throwaway culture
We rely on high-quality, repairable materials and careful renovations. The fact that the BLUME. has been developed with care over centuries is itself a sustainability factor: preservation saves resources across the entire life cycle.
Our history

Environmentally friendly products
In the spa and in housekeeping, we use environmentally friendly products wherever possible, preferably from regional production.

Buying regionally
Short transport routes, local producers and mindful purchasing strengthen the Baden region and reduce emissions.

Travelling sustainably
We promote public transport: during their stay, our guests receive the Baden City Ticket free of charge.

Mindful approach to laundry
Optimised processes and changing linen as needed reduce water, energy and detergent use, without compromising on hygiene and comfort.

Ressourcen und Energie

Mindful practices in everyday operations
We consciously use water, heat and energy sparingly. We review our processes regularly and adjust them, without compromising our guests’ comfort.

Energy-efficient infrastructure
Based on analyses and ongoing monitoring, we invest specifically in energy-efficient appliances and upgrade technical systems where they have a lasting effect.

Energy optimisation with scientific support
Together with the FHNW (Windisch), we analysed our day-to-day operations – from the energy consumption of individual appliances and the lighting to the speed of the lift. On this basis, we invested specifically, among other things in new freezers.

Efficient hot water preparation
Our hot water is produced through the interplay of a heat pump and circulation systems, using the heat of the thermal water. Short pipe runs and modern technology keep energy use low.

Thermal water straight from the spring
Switzerland’s most mineral-rich thermal water flows from the Grosser Heisser Stein spring into our private baths – over a short distance and without unnecessary treatment. → To the BLUME. Spa

Refill instead of single-use
Baden’s tap water is perfectly drinkable. That’s why we provide reusable bottles in the rooms, which can be refilled again and again in the hotel, on excursions and in meetings. In the restaurant and the seminar area, we serve water in glass bottles, prepared using a BWT system.

Avoiding plastic
We consistently avoid single-use plastic, giving priority to reusables and recycling. Plastic barely breaks down and stays with us as microplastic for decades.

Avoiding waste, closing loops
We avoid waste through conscious planning, recycling and the careful use of paper and food.

People and community

Mindful hosting culture
For us, sustainability means a conscious, respectful togetherness in which guests, staff and partners feel equally valued. (Find out more about us here)

Respect, diversity and fairness
These values show in the way we treat one another, in fair working conditions and in an open attitude towards different perspectives.

Accessibility and inclusion
We provide barrier-free rooms, an accessible website and consideration for individual needs, such as allergies.

Rooted in the region
We work with businesses from Baden and the surrounding area, from the bakery and winemakers to the carpentry.

Short commutes
Almost our entire team comes to work on foot or by bike.

Development and learning
We give our staff access to training, workshops and further education.

A place of encounter
The BLUME. has always been a meeting place: we offer space for local concerts, culture and coming together.

Careful preservation of a cultural asset
A great deal of craftsmanship and passion goes into caring for the BLUME. We restore rooms, halls and historic spaces with care and respect for their history.

A shared journey
We see sustainability as an ongoing process: we listen, take feedback seriously and keep developing step by step.
